Additional Information on Implants
The contraceptive implant is a highly effective, long-term birth control method. It is a small, flexible rod inserted under the skin of the upper arm that continuously releases a progestogen hormone. This hormone works by thickening cervical mucus, thinning the uterine lining, and usually preventing ovulation. The implant provides pregnancy protection for five years, offering a convenient and reversible option for contraception. Before booking a coil fitting appointment, you must first have a Women’s Health Consultation with us. This initial appointment allows us to discuss your contraception options, and make sure we allow the appropriate time and preparation for your fitting.
This is particularly important because there are pregnancy and contraception considerations and requirements that need to be discussed before a fitting can take place. This can be done over the phone, or face to face.

This consultation is required before booking a coil fitting appointment. During your appointment, we will discuss your options and make sure you are suitable to proceed with a coil fitting.

Step 2 – Coil/Implant Fitting
Once you have had your Women’s Health Consultation and have been advised that a coil fitting is appropriate, you can book your fitting appointment.
