What is Menopause?
Menopause is defined as one year since your last menstrual period. The average age is around 51, however it can be much earlier for various reasons. While Menopause is a natural phase of a woman’s life, it can have a significant impact on her overall health and well-being. It is important for women to understand and manage the symptoms.
What is Perimenopause?
Perimenopause is a transitional stage that occurs before menopause. It is a period of time when a woman's body begins to undergo hormonal changes that eventually lead to the onset of menopause.
Perimenopause can start several years before menopause, sometimes 8 to 10 years prior and typically in a woman's 40’s, but it can be earlier. During this stage, the ovaries gradually produce less Oestrogen and Progesterone, resulting in irregular menstrual cycles and a variety of symptoms.
The hormonal fluctuations during these stages can cause a range of physical and emotional symptoms, which may include:
Irregular periods, hot flushes, sleep disturbances, mood swings, vaginal and sexual changes, low libido/sex drive, fatigue, body changes, cognitive changes, brain fog, anxiety, aching joints, weight gain, irritability, urinatory symptoms, headaches, dry eyes.
